The size of the outdoor heater you choose will be dependent on what kind of area you are looking to heat. That said, unlike an electric heater, a gas heater produces emissions, which may not be the ideal choice for environmentally conscious individuals. 

For smaller patios or balconies, an electric outdoor heater is a great option. They will offer more flexibility and convenience as you can easily move them around to suit your needs, so long as there’s an accessible electrical outlet.Since they do not require fuel storage and do not produce emissions, they are an eco-friendly choice. The electric heater is preferable for smaller spaces since they have a lower heat output than gas heaters. In extremely cold conditions, an electric heater may be less effective than a gas heater.
